The game works on campaign and Special Ops, but whenever I try to do Special Ops with a friend, or try to go online, I am unable to play with anobody at all, cuz my NAT-type is 'Strict' all the time. And please, don't give me replies like 'Turn the router on and off', I want an answer that will be able to last for as long as I play COD:MW2. --Short Story--
I'm trying to get Open NAT on CoD:MW2, but for some reason I can't get it to open on Windows XP, but it works fine wherever I try it on a Windows 7 PC. Having used several old and clean installs of both windows XP and Win7 on different systems, I just don't know anymore what could cause win XP to fail and 7 to open.
--Longer story--
I've been trying to open my NAT on my gaming PC for some time now, but never succeeding. After a long struggle with fort forwarding, uPnP and DMZing I tried to run it on my laptop.
I fixed the basic port forward and look, it works. The only difference I could see was that my laptop was running windows 7, compared to the XP that's running on my desktop.
At first I tought this could not be the problem. Since then, I've tried it on severeal computers and I always come to the same result: Open NAT is only possible on Windows 7, and it won't work on XP.
I've tried 2 computers with XP, I've tried clean installs of XP, I used all the basic settings that work on 7, but it just won't on XP. I took one of those XP PC's, installed a Win7 on it, and without any effort, it opened my NAT.
General settings:
- uPnP is off in the router (doesn't work either way)
- No DMZ, didn't work for XP anyway.
- portforwarding in my router works (confirmed by portforward checker, and the fact that it works on Win7)
- I did have to add my external IP to the IP list of my connection in Win7, but in XP it won't work.
- all firewalls are off, I've tried with and without Avast AV, win 7 is fine with avast anyway.
I'm at a loss here, I'm sure there are people out there that have open NAT on windows XP, or this should have been a massivly known item (I don't find much relevant on google)
What gives?
--Preemptive answers--
Yes the game works, I just want to get open NAT on XP, or understand why it won't work.
Yes, routing has been done, tested and confirmed working on Windows 7
Yes, I've configured Windows XP the same as the Windows 7 (there might be background default settings I might have missed)
Yes, I'm no native english speaker/writer, my apologies for any mistakes.
